The picture isn't in the smile. It's in the second after.
Most wedding photographers come from documentary or photojournalism. I came from portraiture — more than a decade of watching one face at a time, learning how people hold themselves when they think nobody is looking. It is a different posture, and I think it shows in the work.
The photographs I make of your wedding will not be performances. I will not pose moments that didn't happen, direct expressions you don't naturally make, or stage anything for the camera. I will be quiet most of the day. When I move, it will be because something is about to happen and I want to be where I can see it.
What you'll get back is the day translated into something that survives time. The people, the light, the small things memory will let go of.

On engagement sessions, and why we begin there.
Every wedding I shoot is preceded by an engagement session. Not as a bonus — as preparation, for you and for me. I don't think I can photograph your wedding honestly if I haven't first watched the two of you in a low-stakes setting.
Sixty to ninety minutes, one location, one or two outfits. By the time the wedding day arrives, you've already spent an hour in front of my camera. The stiffness is gone. You're not performing. You're just being, which is where the real photographs live.
